Steps to make Steamed Veg Pizza:
- For the pizza base first take 3/4th teaspoon yeast, 1 teaspoon sugar and 1/2 cup warm water to a cup, stir and set aside for 6 to 8 minutes to broom the yeast.
- Sieve all-purpose flour or maida and baking powder to a mixing bowl.
- Make a well in the centre and add the broomed yeast mixture, chilli flakes, oregano, salt and 1 tablespoon olive oil. You can add any other vegetable oil in place of olive oil.
- Mix well with the flour and slowly make a soft dough by adding warm water as needed. I use almost 1/2 cup of water to make the dough.
- It is necessary to knead the dough for 8 to 10 minutes to make it soft and pliable. Cover the dough and keep in a warm place for about 2 hours.
- Let the dough rise and in the meantime let us make the sauce and toppings.
- Chop 2 tomatoes roughly and grind to make puree.
- Chop 1 onion and 2-3 garlic cloves.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil and temper black peppers, cloves. Also add in crushed garlic.
- Saute for few seconds and then add in chopped onion.
- Cook until onion gets translucent and then pour in the tomato puree. Also add in 2 tablespoon of tomato ketchup to enhance colour.
- Add in spices like chilli powder, curry powder, sugar, salt and dry herb(oregano).
- Add in 1 cup of water and cook in medium heat for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside to cool. Your thick pizza sauce is ready.
- For the toppings, chop red & green capsicum in small pieces. Also chop onion in small pieces. You can also add some other toppings like mushroom, spinach etc.
- Fill the steamer pot half with water and bring to boil. Place 2 layers of baking sheet to the the steamer pot (where we keep stuff to steam).
- When the pizza dough becomes double in size, take out from mixing bowl to a work surface and punch 2-3 times. This will help to incorporate air to the dough.
- Knead again for few minutes by stretching and folding method.
- Divide the dough into 2 equal parts.
- Take one part and roll to make a round pizza. Try to make the sheet little thin like our regular roti.
- Place the sheet over the round baking sheet which we placed in steamer.
- Apply prepared pizza sauce over the round sheet.
- Next place the toppings of your choice. I used capsicum, onion, sweet corn and boil kidney beans.
- Lastly sprinkle shredded mozzarela, oregano and chilli flakes.
- Place the pizza with baking sheet on the steamer pot and steam for 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes switch off the flame. Set aside to cool for 10 minutes.
- Cut in triangles and serve immediately.
