Reduce heat and stir in half-and-half, salt and pepper. Simmer cream of mushroom soup uncovered, 15 minutes, stirring frequently.
Transfer the soup back to the pot, add the cream, and heat it to a simmer. Add balsamic, then taste and adjust seasonings. Serve warm with reserved mushrooms on top and crusty chunks of warm bread. Melt butter in large frying pan. Add in onions, garlic, and mushrooms.
