Crumble-topped apple pies used to be my absolute favorite type of pie. When I was a little kid, I was even known to ask servers in a restaurants whether their pies were crumble-topped or not. This was by the best apple crumble I ever had. My pie didn't out like a pie, more like a cobbler.

- Place apple slices, lemon juice and sugar in a bowl and toss to coat
- Heat butter in a large skillet, add apples with all juices in bowl and cook on medium heat, stirring often until apples are tender but still holding their shape
- Add cinnamon, flour and salt and stir just until blended, less than 1 minute
- Transfer apples to abowl and chill until cold. This can be done up to two days before baking the pie.

- In abowl combine flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, vanilla, toffee bits and spices. Mix to blend
- Add melted butter and stir with a fork to make crumbs
- Assemble and Bake Pieun
- Preheat the oven to 425. Line a baking sheet with foil
- Spoon cooled apple filling into pie shell
- Evenly top with Crumb Topping, place on foil lined pan and bake 30 to 40 minutes until golden and bubbling. Cool on rack
- Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream
But we're not mad about it. I can't figure out why it did though. It didn't hold the shape as a pie should. A simple, crumble-top deep dish apple pie! We love apple pie, but we're not so into making crust.
